What Makes the ATS have the Lowest Dead Volumes in the Industry?

The Ability to Wellplate Profile makes the ATS Achieve the Lowest Dead Volumes in the Industry.

The wellplate profile takes 12 points across the bottom of an acoustic ready source plate and it creates a map where the fluctuation of plate manufacturing is able to be tracked. This data is then used by the ATS to give accurate liquid levels for sub 3% CV dispenses. Having wellplate profile enabled allows the ATS to have a dead volume from 0.5µL-1µL. The wellplate profile takes 15 seconds to run.

A customer may choose to have the wellplate profile disabled. In high throughput screening, 15 seconds per source plate for a well plate profile adds up over thousands of plates. Due to there being no map to track the fluctuation of plate manufacturing, the dead volumes will be higher if wellplate profile is disabled. In the plate parameters, a number will be set. This number will account for the absolute minimum amount of liquid that can be in the well. Anything below this number will not dispense. The accuracy and precision below that number without the wellplate profile being used cannot be validated by the Biosero Engineering team or EDC Biosystems.

Some will ask: Is disabling wellplate profile a problem?

In most high throughput screening, the source plate will never be completely drained. There is usually 2-3 µL of compound remaining in the plate following all transfers. If this is the case, then disabling wellplate profile will have no consequences on accuracy or precision. If the customer drains the well below 2-3 µL of compound, those dispenses cannot be validated and there will be discrepancies with those dispenses.

Wellplate profile is a beneficial tool used to achieve accuracy and precision as well as enabling the ATS to have the lowest dead volume in the field. If the limiting factor of a customer’s screening group is time and not dead volume (lost compound), wellplate profile may be disabled.
