Are you Looking for an Enclosure to Handle Live Cell Applications or Bio-Hazards?

Our Laboratory Automation Biological System (LABS) Enclosures is the Solution YOU are Looking for…

LABS Biological Safety Enclosures satisfy the demanding protection levels required in processes involving live cells, which could previously only be provided by smaller Class II cabinets.

Background

A common example of a typical drug development procedure is the screening of large numbers of potential anti-cancer drugs – with the design of a new generation of robots that are capable of pipetting 96 or 384 samples at once, this screening process has been excelled significantly. For such cell work, where there is a requirement for operator and product protection, many of the robotics systems have become too large for containment within a standard sized Class II laminar flow hood. The Perfect Solution: A Larger Hood with the Required Levels of Protections – LABS Enclosure.

How Does it Do what it Does?

In order to provide the sterile conditions to protect the robotics systems, down-flow air is HEPA filtered within the enclosure roof and passes through air diffuser grilles to be dispersed evenly throughout the enclosure. When access into the enclosure is required and operator protection must be maintained, laboratory air (perfectly controlled to 0.4m/s) enters the lower door windows passing into the enclosure and into a profile griller around the enclosure’s work surface. The enclosure maintains a negative pressure at all times. Once this process is complete, the used air is exhausted via under-bench outlet/exhaust HEPA filtration unit back into the laboratory.

LABS Biological Safety Enclosure

The Most Important Feature – Comfort and Convenience for the Operator

Offering an all around clear view to the interior, the LABS enclosures also allow access to the work surface through 12” (300mm) sliding windows at the front of the enclosure. Key for maintenance and loading, the flexible design enables access to all four sides for access to the hood interior and the contained automation equipment for installation and maintenance.

Key Performance Features:

• Can be used with Class II Biohazards
• Built to meet fundamental requirements of NSF Standard 49, Category B2
• High Performance Airflow System: Continuously monitored and automatically compensates for airflow changes by a ‘closed-loop’ feedback ensuring maximum protection.
• In the event of fan failure, the hood is designed to enter a safe mode and maintain negative pressure ensuring operator safety at all times.
Safety Features: Audible and Visual alarm indication for low airflow, door open or fan failure.

Economics: Keeping Costs Reasonable

Being a compact system, the LABS is intended to be installed with minimum interruption within the laboratory. Building works are avoided as the components of the enclosure will all fit through a standard laboratory door and there is no reason to install the system into existing ducting since it is a free standing unit.
The enclosure’s design allows sufficient space for ancillary equipment to be stored under bench, i.e. vacuum pump. Shelving is also provided when required by the laboratory. The enclosure is fitted with large castors to allow it to be moved and located where necessary within the laboratory.
